The cobalt content varies between 30% and 70%, while other elements such as chromium, tungsten, and molybdenum are added to enhance hardness, wear resistance, and resistance to oxidation. These plates have high thermal stability that enables them to maintain integrity even at elevated temperatures. The microstructure of the cobalt plates, which consists altogether of fine grain structures, favors excellent strength and resistance to thermal fatigues.

These plates are essentially made of cobalt, besides which other elements like chromium, tungsten, and molybdenum may be added to increase their hardness and strength.
